Papercut

Existing options for organizing events online felt lacking so I created Papercut as an alternative.

Challenge

Minimal time, energy, and resources. As a side-project, I was able to allocate a couple of hours each day at most. As a self-funded project, I was able to engage the help of an offshore developer for a limited amount of time. After launch, I had zero budget for marketing.

Process

Step: Focus on core features.
An organizer must be able to easily create events and manage a guest list. Guests must be able to access the information and RSVP. With this as a framework I evolved the design.

Step: Optimize the viral component.
I allowed organizers to allow their guests to invite their friends, and friends of their friends, and so on.

Step: Market differentiator.
I designed the experience to be very visual by giving the organizer the abilities to showcase their event how they want by applying or customizing a theme.

Success

Launch and learn. Within one year, I was able to launch an initial release. Six months of user feedback and iterations later, it was ready for the general public.

Audience

Eventful individuals looking to showcase their events and engage their guests. Guests invited by event organizers.

Role

Founder, designer, product manager, UI coder.
